If you’re a fan of The Great British Bake Off but sometimes wished there were fewer sponges and puddings and more roses and gardenias, we have a show for you! There’s a new Netflix show called The Big Flower Fight that features botanical face-offs with all kinds of plants and flowers.
Psst: Have you seen the ‘Night Sky’ petunia in all of its glory yet?
What’s the Show Like?
The Great British Bake Off starred talented amateur bakers, but on The Big Flower Fight, contestants are professional floral designers. That means the stakes are higher—and the competition is fierce. The show also takes place in a conservatory-inspired glass dome rather than a tent, but you get the gist. The show features ten teams of florists from around the world who are competing for the opportunity to create a magnificent flower installation in London’s Kew Gardens.
The challenges don’t consist of demure floral arranging in tasteful vases. This is bolder stuff, like using only plants to create huge insects, animals and wearable gowns. In fact, the first episode asks contestants to create “titanic bugs,” with jaw-dropping results!
You have to check out the trailer:
The wild floral sculptures are judged based on looks as well as sustainability. The finished products should attract wildlife and insects, be self-irrigating or have another eco-friendly feature.
The Big Flower Fight is an eight-part series on Netflix, so the will be plenty of bouquets to binge-watch!
Who Are the Hosts and Judges?
Instead of familiar faces like Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry, this show is hosted by British comedians Vic Reeves and Natasia Demetriou, and the primary judge is Kristen Griffith-VanderYacht, who is a “florist to the stars.” Each episode also features a special celebrity judge.
Can’t afford an arrangement by Kristen Griffith-VanderYacht? Same. We asked floral experts for their best flower arranging tips and tricks so that you can make your own stunning centerpieces, without breaking the bank.
