It never ceases to amaze me how countries believe that tacking more fees on airline tickets is the right way to promote a country.
Thailand has decided to add a 300 THB fee for all international air arrivals from April 1, 2022 (good date choice!) to promote “Amazing Thailand New Chapter.”
The fee is included on airline tickets, and passengers don’t need to pay it separately, as used to be the case in Indonesia.
It is unclear if and how this fee would be collected from land arrivals.
The 300 THB fee is used to develop tourist attractions and includes accident and death insurance with a maximum payout of 1M and 500K for medical expenses.
Conclusion
It is unclear who underwrites the insurance and the exact requirements for medical expense coverage. 300 THB is not a lot IF the insurance is useful, but this feels more of a money grab. 1M THB in case of death is not a lot, but 500K THB can cover quite a bit of medical expenses in Thailand.
