Finnair brought back in December (read more here) its points sale, allowing members to earn bonus tier qualifying points. I also made the purchase and reported how everything worked out (read more here).
Some readers, however, were reporting that their purchases were not completed or that only award miles, Finnair calls them points, were deposited to their account.
We have been in touch with Finnair, who told us the following:
Customer service has identified all such cases and rest assured all will be fixed by next coming 5-10 working days. We apologize the inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience.
So, if the bonus status miles have not been posted to your Finnair Plus account by the end of next week, you should get in touch with them.
Then there were few comments from readers that were unable to complete the purchase, or it was not completed once the purchase was initiated on Finnair’s website.
You have to keep in mind that a Canadian company called Points.com handles these miles sales for Finnair and many other airlines and hotels.
There is often an issue, based on my personal experiences with dealing with Points.com for more than 10+ years if you try to use a credit card that doesn’t match the name of the person to whose accounts the miles or points are deposited. You may get the message that the purchase is pending, but eventually, it will be declined. Not always, but often.
What we wrote earlier about this offer:
- Finnair Plus Buy Points 100% + Oneworld Sapphire Or Emerald Status Through December 27, 2021
- Finnair Emerald Status Purchase With Upgrade Certificates & Miles
Conclusion
There was likely an issue with orders placed on the date that the offer was ending and if Points completed the purchase after it was over. The bonus award miles were deposited to members, but the tier ones were not.
Finnair should resolve the issue without affected members having to contact them. However, if the tier miles are still missing on Friday next week, I would give them a call.
