The forms of the Sieni collection resemble fungal structures – stems, hypha, caps, and gills. Fitting, because the word “sieni” means mushroom in Finnish. Designed by Michael Yarinsky for Made by Choice, the furniture pieces seem to be hard and soft at the same time, while asking to be handled and experienced. The curved 90-degree angles, use of circles, and lack of hard edges make for a harmonious collection.
Yarinsky’s style of design is grounded in a human-centric approach that really comes through in Sieni. It’s an aesthetic that welcomes comfort and contentment in a modern, lived in way, inviting play and engagement through form. Each decision is intentional, offering unexpected interactions and moments of engagement, and requesting you stay present.
Made by Choice is known for their in-house manufactured wood furniture, with a vision focused on collective creation and Nordic values. By working with American designers, such as Yarinsky, they hope to bring together the traditional craft and heritage of Finnish furniture with conceptual ideas of material, form, and atmosphere.
