It’s the day of the year frequent travelers fear the most when the counters for elite qualifying miles and points are reset to zero and we have to start fresh to requalify for our status levels.
Those few lucky ones with lifetime status at various programs won’t feel the heat as much as others who have to begin from scratch in order to retain their benefits.
Frequent flyers and members of hotel loyalty programs can also check if their annual qualifying credits have already been posted which should be the case for Marriott and Hyatt credit cardholders.
Being able to hold a credit card to jump-start the elite membership qualification in some programs has really been a lot of help for many people and a source of frustration for others who reside in markets where no credit cards for the loyalty program are available with similar benefits.

At this point, the 15 nights that come from my Marriott Bonoy Amex are inconsequential to me. They will probably matter if Marriott comes up with a nights rollover schedule again and allows members to get credit for nights earned in 2021 (where I had 95 nights).
I will not go for Titanium again unless there is a significant boost to my account from such rollover nights and since I’m already Lifetime Platinum there is really no need to do anything with my Bonvoy account for now.
Instead I will likely concentrate on Hyatt:
Unfortunately, Chase has shut down a bunch of my cards in 2019 which included the IHG Mastercards and the Hyatt Visa (while leaving my CSR intact) so I can no longer profit from the Hyatt elite nights credit which is rather bad in my situation.
This means I really have to put the pedal to the metal this year when it comes to Hyatt stays and stop playing around too much with other brands. All assuming that Hyatt will stick to the 60-night requirement for Globalist which I have a feeling will be impossible for them given how things look right now. We might see another double nights promotion or slashing of requirements similar to 2021.
This will be an interesting year – the third one in the sign of the pandemic – and loyalty to Hotel programs as well as airlines might either end up extremely easy or difficult depending on ones travel pattern and availability to cheap rates.
Conclusion
January 1st, 2022 is here and most programs have reset their annual counters to zero with some already displaying the credits which members receive by holding the respective credit cards.
It’s a good idea to have a quick look over your accounts to make sure everything is adequately displayed and there are no errors that need correction. Sometimes programs foul up when there is a membership term switch and keep in mind each program handles it differently when you have a hotel stay over new years eve with some requiring manual correction. In such cases you need to call in or send an email.
